The January 2019 theme night was about old and interesting technical/instruction manuals and old product catalogues. It goes without saying that the members of the Manly Warringa Amateur Radio Society have very understanding partners, for when the call went out for Old Instruction Manuals, Technical Manuals and Product Catalogues for the first show and tell night of the year, we had to set up an extra table to accommodate all of the entries. Everything from learning pigeon English to old car manuals with many examples of different electronic and service manuals in abundance. The clear winner of the night was Sean VK2THT who not only had the manual and pamphlets for his 1970s Holden Sandman Panel van, but also the original receipt and its production line chart. The story telling contest was too close to call so the second prize went to John Vk2ZWD for his entry. As always, a good time was had by all. Thank you to all that participate

The first “Mechanical Movements Devices and Appliances “was published in 1899 and left to my wife by her late great uncle. The engineering problems covered are everything from powering shears in the shearing shed to rotary steam engines. The second book “Practical Australian Motorist ” was published in the fifties. My dad had this book back then and I was always flicking through the pages. I like the section that describes a cone clutch as similar to a housewife getting two glasses stuck together while doing the dishes, I guess blokes didn’t do the washing up in the fifties.
