Just your average Aussie Christmas… Tim VK2BT taking a selfie in the BBQ smoke
Tim’s selfie above… behind the scenes!

As per tradition, the MWRS Xmas party was held the Sunday prior to Christmas. Well attended considering many members had clashes with many other parties.

Where there’s smoke there are sausages…and beer! (L-R: VK2NRA Richard, VK2BT Tim, VK2MDP Mike)

After the BBQ, and while the fire was still alight, there was an impromptu “hazard reduction burn” to get rid of some flammable material (she-oak leaves) around the clubhouse. The resulting smoke drew the attention of the local RFS, who dropped in not once, but twice, to enquire if the fire was under control (it was…). They said that the passing storm (see below) had included some dry lightning strikes.

RFS …just checking!

Terrey Hills got lucky with the weather as other parts of Sydney and NSW had to suffer a freak storm. Some of our members have been impacted in their area with powerlines down and roofs flying off!

Connie and Yves had their aviators’ party at Bankstown Airport with a beautiful sunset after the storm that just avoided the airport.

The colourful skies are not due to the club’s BBQ smoke!

Those who were not at the BBQ reported storm damage. From VK2ZZM Rod in Yass:

…and VK2FWOO Glenn in Dee Why:

Glenn also grabbed the BOM weather radar plots at the time…
…and power outages in the area
