The Goulburn & Southern Tablelands Amateur Radio Society (GSTARS) met at the Goulburn North Maccas at 1800 on Wed 14feb2024. Rod Miller VK2ZZM & I, Dom Bragge VK2JNA are members there (as well as MWRS). We consolidated into about six 4wd vehicles & headed up Mt Gray overlooking Goulburn. Mt Gray is where the majority of professional higher band antennas, transmitters & repeaters are located.
We had the gate unlocked by some of our crew (who are in the industry) & wandered through, heading to the third most southern tower. There we were met by Dennis, who looks after that tower & all upon it inc. Eagle FM, 2GN, Kix FM. Dennis works for Capital Radio Network.
Dennis gave us a great history of the antennas, their problems & workarounds & then we went inside to purview the gear, including backup generators, link receivers, 5kW Tx etc etc
A fantastic night out was had by all & we adjourned back to headquarters (the Goulburn Workers Club) for a meal & rumination before a 90min kangaroo run home.
This was a great little adventure & Dennis really seemed to appreciate that we understood his working life. He laments the lack of young ones coming through that he could train for the future.

The expression on VK2ZZM’s face is a classic!
