On Sunday 26 February 2023, the Society will be celebrating 100 years of Amateur Radio on Sydney’s Northern Beaches.

The first meeting of the Manly & District Radio Club took place at the Presbyterian Hall, Raglan Street, Manly on 26 February 1923, marking the start of organised Amateur Radio in the area.

More details on the Club History page.

The Special Event Station, VI100MB, will be active on the day and throughout 2023, to mark the centenary. Details on the VI100MB QRZ page (229 visits as of 17 Feb 2023 – let’s see how high that number gets!)

We also got a mention on the Friday 17 Feb 2023 edition of Amateur Radio Newsline, about 7 minutes in. And/or, if you prefer, we’re in WIA National News for 19 February.

William Richard VK2SKY discussed the centenary, and Amateur Radio in general, with Ian MacNamara on the ABC Radio’s popular Australia All Over program. Have a listen and find out why “Macca” already knew a thing or two about the hobby…
