The Wireless Institute of Australia’s held its Annual Conference and AGM in Sydney this year, in association with the Waverley Amateur Radio Society‘s centennial celebrations.

As part of this weekend event, Amateur Radio New South Wales hosted a Clubs Expo at the VK2WI site in Dural. Of course, local clubs were invited to attend, and MWRS rose to the challenge. Several other clubs and related organisations had their wares on display:

At the MWRS stand we had plenty to talk about with the conference delegates, with several projects on display, including two that were sponsored by ARNSW:

  • IC-7300 portable emergency station, with custom case created by Yves VK2AUJ. The station had a couple of Morse keys nearby, and these were put to good use by several visitors.
  • The WebSDR
  • 23cm cavities
  • IC-9300 13cm set, which was used for a number of short range contacts. The antennas are visible at the top centre of the photo below.
  • a QCX transceiver kit
  • Raw video footage of the VK2BNQ tower teardown, which had been done the previous day. An edited version is available on VK2MB-TV.
  • A Blitzortung internet-connect lightning detection receiver, which was plotting lightning strikes in the Tasman sea in real time.
  • QSL card collections
Two hands, 3 keys ?!?
Where are the valves?

It was a bit cramped, squeezing everything onto the two tables, but we didn’t want to embarrass the other clubs by asking for more tables than everyone else.

The interstate visitors seemed to be a bit reluctant to take club leaflets, reasoning that they wouldn’t be able to attend club meetings, but once they learned of VK2MB-TV and the other offerings on the club web site they were more interested.

It was a very busy morning and afternoon, and everyone seemed well please with our efforts. Thanks to everyone who came along!
