The Manly-Warringah Radio Society (MWRS) is an Amateur Radio & Electronics enthusiast group serving the Northern Beaches and North Shore areas of Sydney, Australia.
The Society began as the Manly and District Radio Club, in February 1923, and though times and technology have changed, the club continues as strong as ever.
The society operates a radio station under the call sign VK2MB, and boasts members from a wide range of backgrounds, with members ranging from school children to retirees.
We hold Society meetings every Wednesday evening from 7.30 p.m. at the Terrey Hills Guides Hall, Beltana Avenue, Terrey Hills. Visitors and new members are most welcome. We also have plenty of special events throughout the year (see the side bar at the right hand side of this page) and a YouTube channel, where can see videos of club activities.
Our members are more than happy to help you build your technical skills so please don’t feel intimidated if you are just getting started. We offer regular training days to help you get your Amateur Radio licence, and we love nothing more than having someone ask for help on a project.

Thank you for your very interesting articles. Recently I acquired 2 vintage radio licence cards. One is VK2HO, 1930 Hoyte Hart, Manly. The second is VK2WQ, 1934, R. T. Wilkins, Manly. Manly District Radio Club. Any information would be gratefully received. They are not for sale, I collect Manly memorabillia. Thank you, Wendy.
Hi Wendy,
Thanks for your comment. I’ll see what I can dig up, and I’ll also pass your query onto our friends at Amateur Radio New South Wales (http://www.arnsw.org.au); they have considerable resources regarding the hobby.

Follow-up: I have sent via email a list of NSW Amateurs from 1911-1961, which includes entries for both Amateurs.
A search of the National Library of Australia’s Trove web site brought up about a dozen newspaper entries:
https://trove.nla.gov.au/result?q=vk2ho and https://trove.nla.gov.au/result?q=vk2wq
Cheers,
Richard
I have Australian Radio Amateur Call Books for June, 1958 and 1961-62.
Call books list the Names and Addresses of Radio Amateurs.
VK2HO H.J. Hart lived in East St. Ives
VK2WQ R. Wilkins lived in South Grafton.
So it’s highly probable that the cards are QSL cards. these are swapped between radio amateurs to confirm a contact.
They were probably sent to The Manly district Radio Club to confirm a contact.
Just another comment: the searches above bring up a few old magazines. While Trove lets you view many old periodicals online, sometimes it’s nice to have a copy you can download.
https://www.americanradiohistory.com/ has many old radio magazines that you can save as PDFs on your own computer, e.g. p47 of https://americanradiohistory.com/AUSTRALIA/Archive-Wireless-Weekly-AU/1937/Wireless%20Weekly-1937-04-30.pdf references VK2HO in the article, “The Amateur in Emergencies”.
Is there any way Wendy would supply a photograph of the QSL cards?
