It with sadness we’ve learned of the passing of John Douglas VK2ZWD Sunday 4-May-2025 in Northern Beaches Hospital. We are currently in touch with family and will publish details of a celebration of life when available.

John was a true gentleman, always ready to have an interesting fireside chat at the club, and great to talk to on the air. He had a unique sense of humour, and was always ready to offer advice to those who needed it. John excelled at building electronic projects, and was always proud of his achievements. John will be sadly missed by all. Farewell John.

I always enjoyed John’s presence at the club, and also how he got so excited everytime he won the 5th Wednesday’s best display or story price – 3 times. You will be missed. And if you can hear me, it was me that soldered the 3 x AAs in the JOTA keyer, as a battery holder would not fit into the box. I’ve been told you were cursing at whom might have done that when you opened the box to replace the batteries after taking the task of replacing the batteries!
It has been wonderful to have John as part of our club. Living in the same suburb we’ve been able to sneak over to each other’s shacks, down a few cuppas, & talk ham stuff. I never could convince him to build a 100ft tower but that really is John being mindful of his family & neighbours !
