Congratulations to father and son team, Shaun VK2DWS and Charlie VK2TDC who both recently (Nov-2024) qualified for their Foundation License.
Charlie is also undertaking the Duke of Edinburgh Award (DofE), and chose to study for the Foundation License under the skills category for the award.
Within the first few weeks of Charlie commencing his studies, Shaun became interested and decided to also obtain his Foundation license.
Shaun and Charlie are active members of the club, and are readily applying theory to practice.
With the help of Tommy VK2TPJ, they both constructed a 2m/70cm Flowerpot antenna at a recent club meeting – see the photo.
The Society’s $100 Youth Award Grant helps under 18’s who obtain their Foundation License purchase books and equipment. Emmanuel VK2EMM and Charlie VK2TDC have both qualified recently.
For youths interested in achieving the Duke of Edinburgh Award by including Amateur Radio as a skill achievement, MWRS has recently developed a program around the Foundation License. This includes additional practical tasks to complement the Foundation License to further the participant’s skills.
