The Australian government’s Space Weather Services said that HF conditions were about “normal”, but 40m proved to be in lockdown (just like parts of the Sydney’s Northern Beaches) for the club’s Christmas net at 9am on 7045 kHz. Even JS8Call signals struggled to reach outside the Sydney metropolitan area!
Jeff VK2MZZ reported the following stations worked on 40m:
- VK2BDF Phil
- VK2EAH Andrew
- VK2MZZ Jeff
- VK2TMF Mal
Meanwhile, on the 2m repeater were:
- VK2MZZ Jeff
- VK2NRA Richard
- VK2SKY Richard
- VK2UCT Michael
Everyone else must have slept in or were busy with family. Go figure HI!

Blue is 6Mhz and Green is 5Mhz. So no surprise 40 was no good then.
I should probably have used the F2 Critical Frequencies map at http://www.sws.bom.gov.au/HF_Systems/1/4 instead. At least the colour legend is in MHz. 🙂
