I remember Jim well.  Jim attended club meetings regularly and was a true gentleman.

We invariably gave him the job of net controller at the equestrian events where the club provided radio communications, and he performed admirably in this role.

I can also recall that sometimes he used to get confused operating his 2m rig at home, so we programmed all 99 channels of his FM92 to the club repeater – thus he could always monitor and make contact with anyone who called.

It is with deep regret that I read in todays Manly Daily of the passing of our esteemed member Jim (Reginald James) MORAN, now a silent key, last Thursday, p66 has the details lower right of the page.  He was an honourable and good man and in spite of problems gave volunteer service to the community for many years.
The Service will be Next Wednesday 28th June at 11:00 Avalon Uniting Church.

Jim was a taxi driver and lost his sight in a car accident.  I often drove him home from the club and it was amazing that he could pretty well tell where we were.  He always knew when we turned into his street!  Jim also ran a base station for the volunteer coastal patrol or some similar organization.

Jim was an excellent operator and has operated the control centre station of many equestrian events at the St.Ives Showground for the society.  Jim was also very good at keeping the secretary straight with the minutes read the following month.  In his younger days, Jim used to ride a BSA motorcycle, when Connie and I bought and rode our motorcycles to the club for the first time, Jim was very excited to be able to inspect and sit on one of them and entertain us as always, with interesting stories.  Jim will be missed by many.
