The brochure said: “What do you do under the sun? Burn or recharge? Best display by vote, best story judged by our last winner.”

As always a very entertaining evening, five very interesting displays including a full solar driven boat on site.

And did you know a simple LED produces power when exposed to light. Amazing display from Carmel showing how an APRS device was charged from LED strips on a car sunshade.

Our winners … Brian for the Best Display by votes, and Carmel got the judge’s prize for the Best Story:

“I made up a car sunscreen large solar cell using all LEDs and managed to get some decent volts and amps to charge an aprs battery and cell phone. Was at the rooftop parking lot at Hornsby Westfield and had the solar sun screen on the windscreen. When I got back an idiot examining my windscreen asked me about all the LEDs and I told him it was a solar cell, which he didn’t believe me, and then he said, ‘Wow, well suppose if your headlights fail you could drive using the LEDs on the windscreen!’

“I thought he was joking but he wasn’t :/”
