A selection of the members & kin who turned out to mark the centennial

On Sunday 26 Feb 2023, members turned out for a party to mark the end of the first hundred years since the formation of the Manly & District Radio Club, and its modern incarnation, the Manly-Warringah Radio Society.

It was at 8pm on 26 February 1923 that the original club met for the first time:

First mention of the club to be, Wireless Weekly 23 Feb 1923

According to the 4 April 1923 edition of Radio in Australia & New Zealand (page 19), the meeting itself faced a few challenges, to which club members fearlessly rose.

For the keen historians among you, there is plenty to keep you busy on the Society’s history page. It’s still very much a work in progress.

On the day we had presentations and speeches from club patron Rob Stokes and various members, and even honorary life member Dick Smith VK2DIK dropped in to say hello! We had a videographer on hand too, see the highlights on our YouTube channel VK2MB-TV, as Russell would say “it’s exactly how it was”.

More photos etc as they come to hand, meanwhile check out the latest posting about the day on our newly-revived Facebook page.

And remember that the club will be activating the Special Event Callsign VI100MB all this year to keep on celebrating!

Club Astronomer Phil VK2BDF (centre) brought along a telescope; Tim VK2BT is checking out the solar flares, using the proper filters, of course!!!
Zara VK2ZYP baked a special ultra-chocolate cake, with the theme of HF (Highly Fudgy!) radio, complete with tuning dial!
