On the Air
Nets
We wouldn’t be much of a Radio club if we never got on the air, would we? Listen out for individual club members, or the club station VK2MB. Here’s where you’re most likely to find us if you are tuning around the bands.
- – “Early Bird” net: daily from 6:30 am local time on 3690 kHz. (note: 3 January 2023 marked the club’s 15,000th Early Bird net!)
- – “Morning” net: daily from 8:00 am local time on or near 3696 kHz, or 7189 kHz, depending on propagation.
- – “General” net: any time on the general HF chat frequencies of 7085 kHz.
- – “Christmas Day” net: at 9am on the 40 metre band “General” net frequency, on Christmas Day, or any other “special occasion” we can think of!
HF chat frequencies
Many of us like to take part in the numerous contests and special event activations that take place on the band. So, any time, any mode, any where, keep an ear (or an eye!) out for “VK2MB portable”… In particular, you’ll find us on our favourite “chat” frequencies:
- 80 metres: 3670 kHz
- 40 metres: 7085 kHz
- 30 metres: 10130 kHz
- 20 metres: 14130 kHz
- 17 metres: 18130 kHz
- 15 metres: 21230 kHz
On VHF and UHF
Give a call on any of the club repeaters. “Drive Time”, during the morning and evening rush hours, is generally a good time to find someone about. The two metre band FM repeater is generally the most popular, though you can often hear activity on the 70 centimetre band FM repeater. You will also often find us on the air during Special Events using the callsign VK2MB/p (portable).
For local area chats, usually when we are out portable, we use 147.4750 MHz (600 kHz above VK2RMB 2 metre repeater output frequency)
