TicTac CTCSS

In 1998 a large quantity of VHF FM92 radios hit the market at give away prices.  The MWRS had obtained enough to supply every member at the time, many took this opportunity, they were cheap and robust.  They were not small but most of them came with a remote head.  Many ended up as a second radio in spare cars and in the shack.  The Society has a fully operational one installed in the radio shack, connected to a flower pot aerial.

Most of these radio didn’t have the CTCSS option.  Now that many repeaters require a CTCSS tone for activation, they are not as useful as before.

We have recently (July 2016) installed CTCSS to the club’s one, using a generic CTCSS board (ours is a C1114 from SIGTEC) connected to the 8pin DIN plug behind the radio.  The 8pin DIN plug provides audio in (pin 5) and audio out, PTT, 12v (pin 8) and ground (pins 2 & 3).  Our board is set to 91.5Hz and always on.  It is contained into a TicTac box.

Other users may prefer to have an on/off option and be able to also select 123 Hz which is also used for some repeaters.
