The Picton Show Society informed amateur radio operators and radio enthusiasts of THE PICTON HAMFEST months ahead. The event was held at the Picton Show Ground on the 23rd of November 2025.
- Car boot sellers and traders were invited to book for their site prior to the event. The notice to all stated:
- $30.00 per 6m x 6m outdoor site. Bring your own shelter, tables or tarps.
- The gate will open for car boot and trader setup at 6am
- Buyers, lookers, wafflers and eye ballers from 8am.
- Food vans will be available from 8am.
- There will be undercover seating in the food van area.
- The Hamfest will be run in conjuction with a general market, so there is plenty for the non-amateur family members.
- The market and the Hamfest will be in separate areas, a short walk apart.
The MWRS traffic on the reflector indicated that many members would be attending, a good follow up to the Friday’s AC/DC concert! The nostalgia of the annual pilgrimage to the Gosford-then-Wyong hamfests resonated to many and was an easy convincing to set the alarm o’clock.
MWRS Members spotted at the hamfest:
- Charlie VK2GMT
- Des VK2TGJ + Julie
- Garry VK2YBX
- Greg VK2XE
- Mal VK2TMF
- Nick VK2FS + XYL and Zara’s dog
- Richard VK2SKY, at the WICEN/VRA stand
- Simon VK2YU – Mr President
- Walter VK2XWB
Mogens Bradley Andersen, our presenter for last November’s lecture on Precision ADS-B, also dropped in. Mogens and his wife recently returned to Australia for good, leaving Denmark behind to take up residence in Manar NSW.

Just outside the main hall, members of WICEN NSW Inc, a specialist support squad of VRA Rescue NSW (can you guess their speciality?) talked with visitors about WICEN’s support for community events and past emergency activations. There was also a live demonstration of Winlink (email over radio) using just a laptop, IC-705 running 5W, and a JPC-12 vertical antenna: far from ideal conditions, but it worked, with help from the VK3DPW Winlink gateway on the Mornington Peninsula, some 461km to the south.
