Our repeaters have been chugging along faithfully but the hut they live in – although well insulated – has been at the mercy of ambient air temperature.  With hot summer days reaching 40C at times the gear has to swelter through it with only fan-forced cooling (which also dragged in high levels of humidity and dust at other times).

Cue specialist installers Jeff VK2MZZ, Malcolm VK2TMF and Tim VK2BT – after a morning’s work we now have an air conditioned hut!  The target: 25C year-round temperatures.  Geoff VK2AVR turned up with coffees and jam donuts for the workers, pointed a camera around a bit and appraised the new install.

The A/C was commissioned around 2pm local time, and it’s showing consistent regulation between 21C and 27C – a big improvement when we were seeing 40C on hot days!  On cool nights it barely runs, so power consumption should be minimal.  Great job, team!
