Jamboree on the Air (JOTA) is an annual event in which about 500,000 Scouts and Guides all over the world make contact with each other by means of amateur radio. Radio signals carry their voices to virtually every corner of the world!
The MWRS will once again be supporting this global event over the weekend of 20th / 21st October by working with the Sydney North Region Scouts. We will be operating under the callsign VK2SNR from the club house in Terrey Hills, Sydney.
The weekend is sure to be a blast with a number of activities both radio and other being scheduled. Including….
- The scouts building a portable 2 Meter station. Using this station the kids have had good contacts with club members and other scouts around the sydney basin.
- Making contacts on VHF / UHF / HF on club frequencies, D-Star, Echolink and more. We owe a debt of gratitude to KD0TIN who spent quite time time on echolink answering questions and talking with the kids.
- Practicing their morse code on a test key and filling out the attached worksheet as they work towards their radio badge. Here’s a link to the worksheet with updated dates for 2012: JOTAsheet2012
- Tracking the shuttle bus with APRS from Narrabeen.
Keep track of the weekend on our twitter page, this page and on the air!
